Changes for Self-employed

There are approximately 1.7 million self-employed people who as from the 1st October have been made exempt from Health & Safety legislation. If there work activity poses no potential risk to the health and safety of other workers or members of the public, then health and safety law will not apply to them. The types of jobs affected are for example accountants, financial advisors, designers, dress makers and journalists. If however you are self-employed but employee others the H&S law will apply to you. Most self-employed people will know if their work poses a risk to the health and safety of others. You must consider the work you are doing and judge for yourself if it creates a risk or not. If you need any further advice please contact me
